I agree with you that the real risk is for those who remain passive. AI is advancing too quickly to wait it out. The good news is that early adoption doesn’t require massive resources, just curiosity, discipline, and a willingness to experiment.

What excites me most is that we may see a new generation of entrepreneurs emerge, not because they chose to, but because they had to. Necessity has a way of driving innovation, and AI gives people the leverage to turn small ideas into real businesses.

The question is less about whether AI will disrupt careers (it already is) and more about whether people will take the initiative to adapt.

I write fiction full-time. but I supplement my income by taking on small, relatively lucrative nonfiction gigs that don't steal much of my time. More recently, I was ghosting for an influencer out of L.A. Up until a few months ago, the golden rule was "no AI generated copy." Those writers found using it for their stories would be terminated on the spot. Today, the company has made a complete 180. They've fired all the "human" writers and now rely on AI to produce their content. "Sorry, bud," were my boss's exact words. I'm fortunate in that I write fiction, and AI is a long way away from producing anything near what a human writer can produce. A machine that has never experienced human emotion (never kissed a girl, for instance) can never replace the human experience. Not yet anyway.

"Bluff - How AI Called Humanity's Hand" by Greg Jameson discusses this problem and suggests the "Solopreneur" as one solution. I recommend reading it in an afternoon. It's short, and blunt.

Interesting. I just wrote a piece on what I would tell my son entering college pursuing a degree in finance give the new AI environment. It is interesting times for sure - https://johnboudreau.substack.com/p/advice-to-my-son-and-any-college?r=68mrcj
